“ …the biggest challenge is to sequence the release of water from Lake Mendota at a rate and or volume that does not cause undue property damage along the shoreline of Lake Monona and consequently Lake Waubesa.  The volume of water that we have to move out of Lake Mendota, as a result of a series of precipitation events, keeps both Lakes Monona and Waubesa at elevated levels for extended length of time on these lower lakes.  If we release the water too slow out of Mendota, then we run the risk of not having sufficient reservoir capacity to handle successive runoff events ”

  • As Kevin has stated above, there are many factors to consider when opening or closing Tenney Lock and Dam.

  • Property damage from high water levels is expensive.

  • The strongest motivator for this project was just to get a grasp on the governing equations.  In my opinion, accurate simulation of the real world is indicative of the level of understanding of what governs the real world.
