Home Background Issues Improvements
Like many coastal cities, the breakwaters protecting the Milwaukee Harbor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin are integral to the economic, environmental, and social health of the area. The breakwaters help provide calm harbor area and shoreline protection through the dissipation of energy. The Milwaukee breakwater structures have been functioning relatively well for nearly a century. It has come time, however, to consider what should be done to improve the breakwaters; many issues must be addressed. The purpose of this website is to inform the average citizen about the history and status of both of Milwaukee's major breakwater facilities: Milwaukee Harbor Breakwaters and South Shore Breakwaters.
