OBJECTIVES: The main objective
of this assignment was to investigate different types of artificial
reefs. As research progressed, I
found that artificial reefs can be split into two main categories of
functions: 1) to harbor aquatic life, and 2) to break waves. The focus of this
research is towards artificial reefs that break waves. I analyzed two different sites where wave
breaking artificial reefs have been placed or are planning to be placed. At both of these sites, I wanted to
determine whether or not these artificial reefs were successful in breaking
waves sooner, thus protecting the beaches on the shores behind them. More information can be found on the two
