Future Concerns
As civil
engineers, we always need to look to the future and try to understand
how our work will affect the future. In regards to Concordia
University, we need to look at how the installation of the revetment
structure and breakwater affects the entire area. The wave that hits
the revetment structure is reflected back into the body of water. The
returning wave is sometimes much stronger than the original that hit
the revetment. These waves hit the bluff at unprotected sites and can
dramatically increase the rate of erosion. The home in the picture
below is an example of how our engineering design can negatively affect
people. The home could be in structural danger down the road because
waves are hitting the unprotected bluff at that area and much higher
rates.
