INTRODUCTION: A house with a basement built under the water table is bound to have water problems. Living on Twin Lake in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, water problems are not uncommon. I have done research to not only help myself but to help others with steps that can be taken to solve near shore water tribulations.

STEP 1: Find Ground Tater Table

Create plots of lake elevations

Create tables of past precipitation

Create tables of temperature

STEP 2: Use Resources

Call DNR

Call local watershed

Use city records

STEP 3: Minor Solutions

Drain tiles

Check gutters and drainage system outside house

Re-grade area around the house

Plants that consume a lot of water

STEP 4: Major Solutions

Raise house

Line house with geosynthetics

Waterproof basement

Fill basement in

CONCLUSION: Water is a powerful resource. It is hard to contain but can be managed in many ways to make it a beautiful view to appreciate, outside your house.
