INTRODUCTION: A house with a basement built under the water table is bound to have water problems.  Living on Twin Lake in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, water problems are not uncommon.  I have done research to not only help myself but to help others with steps that can be taken to solve near shore water tribulations.

STEP 1:  Find Ground Tater Table

*      Create plots of lake elevations

*      Create tables of past precipitation

*      Create tables of temperature

STEP 2:  Use Resources

*      Call DNR

*      Call local watershed

*      Use city records

STEP 3:  Minor Solutions

*      Drain tiles

*      Check gutters and drainage system outside house

*      Re-grade area around the house

*      Plants that consume a lot of water

STEP 4:  Major Solutions

*      Raise house

*      Line house with geosynthetics

*      Waterproof basement

*      Fill basement in

CONCLUSION:  Water is a powerful resource.  It is hard to contain but can be managed in many ways to make it a beautiful view to appreciate, outside your house.
