Wave Power Generation Advantages
Water waves contain the most concentrated form
of renewable energy, and are more predictable and dependable than other
forms of natural energy such as solar and wind. There is a 90% predictability
rate for ocean water waves, as opposed to a 20-30% rate for solar and wind.
Additionally, wave power systems use space much more efficiently than traditional
land power plants powered by oil, natural gas, or coal. For a 100MW
land power plant, roughly 2 square miles of valuable land, untouched wilderness
or potential real estate, is used up. For a comparable 100MW offshore
waves power system, a single square mile of unused ocean surface is all
that is needed. The last, and perhaps biggest advantage of wave power
systems are their environmental soundness. This topic is addressed
in the comparison of onshore and offshore systems.
